History:

  • Many early settlers of Manchester came from Manchester Township in Ontario County, New York. They named their new home after their old one.
  • Major John Gilbert first visited the area in 1833 and platted and surveyed it. He obtained a grant of 400 acres.
  • The village was incorporated in 1867.
  • Today it is a convenient "bedroom community", located less than 20 miles from each of the cities of Ann Arbor, Adrian, and Jackson.
