History:
Many early settlers of Manchester came from Manchester Township in Ontario County, New York. They named their new home after their old one.
Major John Gilbert first visited the area in 1833 and platted and surveyed it. He obtained a grant of 400 acres.
The village was incorporated in 1867.
Today it is a convenient "bedroom community", located less than 20 miles from each of the cities of Ann Arbor, Adrian, and Jackson.
