Cities:
The cities of Ann Arbor, Chelsea, Saline, and Ypsilanti are located in the county, along with a portion of the city of Milan (which is shared with Monroe County). See individual city guides for details. Population data is shown below from the 2000 census.

  • Ann Arbor -- 114,024
  • Chelsea -- 4,398
  • Milan -- 3,065 (Washtenaw) + 1,710 (Monroe) = 4,775
  • Saline -- 8,034
  • Ypsilanti -- 22,362

     
    Villages:

  • There are 3 incorporated villages in the county, including the village of Barton Hills, an exclusive residential enclave northwest of Ann Arbor. It is typically treated as part of Ann Arbor.
  • Dexter and Manchester are much larger, as shown below in the population data from the 2000 census. See individual village guides for details on them.
  • Whitmore Lake, on the other hand, is NOT an incorporated village, so separate population data is not published for it. It is simply the area surrounding the lake of the same name, shared with Livingston County. See area guide for details.

  • Barton Hills -- NW of Ann Arbor, pop. 335
  • Dexter -- 2,338
  • Manchester -- 2,160
  • Whitmore Lake -- NA

    School Districts:
    School district boundaries do not correlate well with any other boundaries. They wander across city, township, or even county lines, as needed. Children in Washtenaw County attend schools in the following districts:
